Volga White

Volga was born on new years Day on a farm in Northern Cape.

1961 – 1964

Higher teacher diploma in art: Johannesburg

Taught art for three years and then subsequently worked in public relations for several years with various companies, with fairly extensive travel abroad and a short sojourn to South America where she was offered a teaching post.

Lately owned an arts and crafts business in conjunction with a school, teaching mainly craftwork.

1984

Began to focus on art as a career beginning with a solo exhibition a the Carriage House Gallery, Parktown, Johannesburg.

1984-1995

Participated in group exhibitions at various galleries on a regular basis while retaining the art supply business.

1995-1999

Solo exhibitions at Everard Read, Johannesburg and Knysna Fine Arts, based on new abstract work, were included among participation in many Shared and group exhibitions in galleries throughout South Africa. Invited to show work at selected exhibitions such as The Water Colour Society Anniversary exhibition.

Ongoing commissions for various Corporate clients.

Commisions include hanging with Irma stern, William Kentridge etc.

Also invited as guest ajudicator, provincial and national water Colour Society.

2000-2001

Solo exhibition: Gallery 88 Sasolberg and a group exhibition at the museum Gallery, Potchefstroom.

Relocated from Johannesburg to Greyton, near Caledon in the Western Cape.

Established own studio and the Volga White Gallery.

Solo exhibition at Greyton Lodge and sponsored a Rose festival group exhibition at the Moravian Hall, Greyton, under the aegis of Volga White Gallery.

Solo exhibition: Die Bankwinkel, Greyton.

2002

Exhibition shared with Renato Guerrini, Galerie Plett-Zeist, Holland

2004

Solo exhibition: Winchester Mansions Hotel, Sea Point.

2009

Shared exhibition: Kirstenbosch Gradens, Cape town.

Group exhibition: Cape Palette-George
