ArtKaroo Media release KKNK 2015

Living close to the earth as we do, here in the Karoo, nature in her primordial guise is never far with her unique blueprints, exquisite patterns and inspiration. Just as new growth spurts fresh and verdant from the cropped plant, creativity pulses once again from ArtKaroo Gallery’s renewed premises.

Janko de Beer’s organic equestrian and feline sculptures reflect this elemental philosophy- his art a perfect foil to his profession as advocate. Also exhibiting at ArtKaroo in “Die Aard van Kuns” during the KKNK 2015: Judy Bumstead , known for her rich veldt oil paintings; Lisl Barry with her gentle landscapes and portrayals of Karoo people; rising star, Chris Slabber, our featured artist of 2014, winner of the international Platinum “A” design award and Absa Vuka’s featured artist of 2014, will be hanging new designs of nature and portraiture.

Madeleine Miles and Janet Dixon have joined artistic forces to portray “Karoo Nouveau”, an interactive exhibition of Art Nouveau inspired works translated into our own milieu. The contrasting styles of these two artists comment on the egalitarian community of Art Nouveau with the inclusiveness of Arts and Crafts. Mixed media works invite you to find you a path through the maze. An open discussion between artists and the public explores the relevance of this movement today.

Reflective Spaces” is the intriguing and exquisitely executed work of Paul Birchall, hosted by ArtKaroo at the KunsKwas venue, La Dolce Vita Restaurant. It is Realism with a twist. There is also ample opportunity to participate in the creativity of ArtKaroo: make a linocut and print your own artwork on a hand turned press; sculpt a sand casted selfie; back by popular demand - Karoo landscape oil workshop with Neels Coetzee, and of course the ultimate en plein air expedition –ArtKaroo Outdoors. Booking is essential for these via Computicket.

Look out for Artkaroo and ACT’s Rhino, a symbol of reconciliation and hope, in the streets of Oudtshoorn, during the KKNK.
